56. John G. COONS was born in 1804/5 in NY. He died in 1877 in Missouri.(176) He was a Farmer. He was married to Phebe F. SUTTON PROB. 1829 in prob. Ulster County, NY.

Born in New York State in either 1804 or 1805, John G. Coons was a farmer. He probably married in 1829 in Ulster County, New York, Phebe F. Sutton, the daughter of Charles Sutton and Dorcas Kniffin.

According to the History of Cass County, Michigan, 1882; John’s son, "Moses M. Coons came from Sandusky County, Ohio, with his father, John G., in 1841. His father removed to Iowa and ultimately to Missouri, where he died in 1877."

They came to Michigan to settle on land in Mason Township, Cass County, Michigan, spending some years first in Ohio where their son Charles was born.

The 1850 Michigan census shows John and Phebe with a family of seven children. The first two boys, Moses and George, were born in New York State. Their son Charles was born in 1840 in Sandusky County, Ohio prior to their move to Michigan. Then, the remaining four children, Lydia, Sarah, Nelson, and Polemon were all born in Michigan and remained there to live.

By 1860 the parents were no longer in Michigan but had probably moved on to Iowa. John G. died in Missouri in 1877. Phebe’s death date has not been established.

57. Phebe F. SUTTON was born in 1811/12 in Ulster Co, NY.(177) Children were:
