Charles Sutton and his wife, Dorcas Kniffin, were both born in Westchester County, New York; he on August 22, 1783 and Dorcas on February 26, 1785. In 1834 this family left Ulster County, New York where they had been for some years and headed west to Sandusky County, Ohio. From there they came to Cass County, Michigan in 1844. Here they farmed the land, and with family nearby they stayed on their farm well into their eighties.
